Community providing input on Homewood Park upgrade, expansion project

Bridging the Gap is committed to Community

PITTSBURGH —

A major project to upgrade and expand Homewood Park is getting some feedback and input from the community.

The project, that’s been in the works for years, will completely transform the space and when it’s done, those behind it say it will have a huge impact on the youth in the Homewood community.

“The youth in this area and surrounding communities come to this field, look at this field as a safe haven,” said Mubarik Ismaeli, Executive Director and President of Homewood Community Sports. “No nonsense, no drugs, no violence. None of that. We don’t have that up here and I think this is going to be….so impactful that it’s going to be copied around the country. Not just in the city.”

With the help of Heinz Endowments, the city of Pittsburgh, and several organizations, Homewood Community Sports development a master plan to transform and expand the park. Some of those improvements include a new football and baseball field, relocating the pool, adding a cultural performance space and playground.
